Fujian to make better use of underground space
The Fujian provincial government recently issued a notice for better exploitation of underground space.
To improve the urban infrastructure, more underground space will be developed into parking lots, pipeline ditches, transportation channels or garbage recycling centers, said the notice.
However, construction of residential homes, nursing homes, schools, kindergartens, and hospital wards are forbidden in the underground area.
It is notable in the notice that Fujian encourages social capital to invest in the exploitation of underground engineering projects, such commercial streets, air-defense facilities and other civil infrastructure projects.

As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
