High-speed rail to connect Fuzhou and Xiamen
The Authority in Fujian province is planning a high-speed railway between Fuzhou and Xiamen in a bid to reduce the travel time by train to one hour.
The route of the rail will likely cover Fuzhou, Putian, Quanzhou and Xiamen, and can be extended to Zhangzhou, said the Fujian Development and Reform Commission at a press conference on Nov 18.
The Commission is soliciting designs of the project from society.
After completion, the travel time between Fuzhou and Xiamen is expected to be cut down from two hours to one hour.
More importantly, the Fuzhou-Xiamen high-speed rail will be linked to the Beijing-Fuzhou high-speed rail, which means it will only take 8 hours for Beijing-bound passengers in Xiamen, about 5 hours less than now.
The high-speed rail will also relieve traffic pressure on the Fuzhou-Xiamen Rail, and connect Fuzhou Metropolitan Area and the Xiamen-Zhangzhou-Quanzhou Metropolitan Area.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
