According to Strait News, the list of China’s Top 10 Smart Cities was released on November 15th at the Second Experience Exchange Meeting on Smart City Construction.
Xiamen was named among the top 10 smart cities in China for the second time. The other 9 smart cities released were Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Wenzhou, Fuzhou, Xianyang, Weihai and Ningbo.
The selection process of China’s Top 10 Smart Cities was launched in September this year under the guidance of experts from the National Informatization Committee of Experts, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other experts from different regions.
The total investment in nationwide smart city construction is expected to amount to 160 million yuan during the 12th Five-year Plan (2011-2015), which will mark the transformation from conceptual smart city construction phase to the practical implementation phase.
Mr. Yao Jianquan, academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said the successful construction of a smart city requires logical and systematic planning to promise smooth construction of smart transportation, smart education and smart tourism.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
