New and faster high-speed rail planned between Fuzhou and Xiamen
The travel time between Xiamen and Fuzhou is expected to be cut to 1 hour with the new railway.
According to a seminar held on November 18th, a new high-speed railway is being planned for travel between Fuzhou and Xiamen, which is expected to forge a one-hour circle for travel between the two cities.
The preliminary work for the new high-speed railway is underway, and coastal cities including Fuzhou, Putian, Quanzhou and Xiamen are expected to be thread together by this new railway.
The travel time between the cities is expected to be cut half from about 2 hours to 1 hour with the new railway.
Meanwhile, the new Fuzhou-Xiamen high-speed railway will play a vital role in the Beijing-Fuzhou high-speed railway extension project. Upon completion, the travel time from Xiamen to Beijing will take about 8 hours, 5 hours less than the previous 13 hours.
The new high-speed railway construction project between Fuzhou and Xiamen is being promoted due to the overwhelming passenger flow on the current Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway, which is one of the busiest railways in China and saw nearly 100% occupancy rate during the holidays.
Upon completion of the new high-speed railway, 6 cities in Fujian Province including Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Putian, Zhangzhou and Nanping, will be able to take direct high-speed trains to Beijing.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
