Arguments against new speed restriction in Xiamen
Residents have argued about the new bus speed-limit rule which was implemented by Xiamen Public Transport Group recently, Xiamen Daily reported on Jan 6. The new rule requires some buses on specific routes to lower their speed from 60 kilometers per hour to 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.
Although the rule is meant to improve traffic safety in the industrial areas and residential areas, local citizens complain that it takes far too much time on the ride.
“It drives too slowly! It will be worse if we are caught in a traffic jam,” Mr Yu said. He took a ride for more than one hour, which needed only 40 minutes before, and was late for work on Jan 5.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
