Xiamen sees robust trade increase with UAE
Foreign trade with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at Xiamen Customs in East China's Fujian province soared 26.9 percent to 5.18 billion yuan ($752.71 million) in the first half of this year, statistics from Xiamen Customs showed.
The export value at the customs jumped 14.3 percent year-on-year to 4.37 billion yuan while its import volume tripled to 810 million yuan during the first six months of this year.
In order to further promote economic exchange with the UAE, customs from both China and the UAE recently inked an agreement to realize mutual Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification.
The AEO certification program was advocated by the World Customs Organization to strengthen the partnership between customs and industry, reduce barriers to customs procedures and enhance international trade efficiency.
An official from Xiamen Customs said that they will actively implement the AEO certification program to improve clearance efficiency in a bid to promote the expansion of local companies in other countries.

As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
