Service industries in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, have resumed work and production from Feb 10, in an effort to ensure people's basic livelihoods.
According to local media reports, nearly 70 percent of the city's superstores and chain enterprises are operating normally, and about 90 percent of employees had gone back to work by Feb 10.
Foreign-funded firms and e-commerce enterprises have resumed work in an orderly manner by adopting "cloud platform" frameworks and remote office systems.
In an effort to help businesses resume production amid the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak, the Xiamen government has rolled out a series of measures, including offering chartered transport services to curb the spread of the epidemic as workers return to the city from the Spring Festival holiday and delays caused by the virus outbreak.
The government is encouraging enterprises to embrace remote work, video conferencing, online training and other formats to partially restart work, and will introduce more supportive policies, including tax cuts and financial support, to help service businesses weather the epidemic.
The Xiamen government has also provided subsidies for businesses related to people's daily lives, as well as some delivery firms offering food delivery services.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
