The first half of 2021 has seen as many as 6,129 new business projects in Xiamen in East China's Fujian province. The city's GDP during the first quarter of this year surged 21.1 percent, with its growth rate leading Fujian. Xiamen's population growth rate also leads the province, increasing by 46.23 percent during the past 10 years, .

At a provincial news conference on July 15, the Xiamen government expressed its determination to improve the city's business environment with better rule of law, formulate specific policies to optimize the special economic zone's business climate, and strive to be an international leader in industrial innovation.

The Fujian government rolled out a work plan to improve its business environment in June of this year, formulating a list of 211 targets and proposing that official documents failing to boost local business be abolished or revised. Xiamen is currently working on its own policies in response to the province's work plan, and has begun soliciting opinions from the public.

As a special economic zone, free trade zone, pilot zone for overall reform, and innovation demonstration zone, Xiamen will establish market mechanisms consistent with global high-standard market rules, and continue focusing on China's business environment assessment system. The government will help local companies overcome difficulties and work to increase the satisfaction of individuals and businesses.
