Xiamen in Fujian province launched a "Pillars of Xiamen" plan and an Economic Alliance of Alumni on July 2 to facilitate the development of the city’s alumni economy, which attracted over 400 influential alumni.
The "Pillars of Xiamen" plan aims to gather the strengths of alumni to develop the city into a development demonstration area integrates institutes of higher learning, alumni, and the city.
Organized by the Xiamen municipal government and founded by local universities, primary and secondary schools, and alumni associations of nationally renowned universities, the Economic Alliance of Alumni will work as a coordination organization to facilitate the alumni economy and assist alumni. The first alliance included 80 schools nationwide.
Thirty-three outstanding alumni were certified to be investment consultants and investment promotion consultants at the ceremony.
In addition, 23 representative investment promotion projects were signed at the ceremony.

As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
