Xiamen tops convenience store development index list
Xiamen in Fujian province was ranked first among 39 cities nationwide in terms of its convenience store development index with a score of 92, local media reported on Sept 14.
According to the index, cities nationwide witnessed a steady growth 2022. The index included core data on each city's saturation of convenience stores, growth rate of total stores, proportion of 24-hour convenience stores and business environment.
The growth rate of total convenience stores in Xiamen reached 10.34 percent year-on-year, topping the county.
In terms of saturation of convenience stores, every 3,227 people in Xiamen are within close proximity of one convenience store.
Among all the convenience stores in Xiamen, the 24-hour convenience stores accounted for 43.8 percent, with posted an increase from last year's 40 percent.
In addition, Xiamen's good business environment contributed to the overall performance of its development of convenience stores, which is in part to the city's efforts to develop its convenience store sector.
In 2020, Xiamen released a plan to encourage convenience stores to accelerate the development of branded chains.
In 2021, the Xiamen municipal bureau of commerce issued a number of measures to boost consumption, which included that the city's large chain convenience stores and fresh food convenience stores will be rewarded up to 2 million yuan ($285,965.66) for opening a new store.
