Xiamen, a coastal city in East China's Fujian province, rolled out a raft of measures to promote consumption recovery during the recent weeklong National Day holiday while sticking to rigorous epidemic prevention and control protocols.

According to official data from the city's commerce bureau, from Oct 1 to 7, 23 major shopping malls, supermarkets and e-commerce platforms in Xiamen generated a total transaction volume of 582.54 million yuan ($81.85 million), up 32.49 percent compared with the same period last year.

In addition, turnover of the city's four major catering companies skyrocketed 453.95 percent on a yearly basis to 3.55 million yuan.

During the holiday, a series of pro-consumption measures, such as giving away shopping vouchers, were implemented to shore up consumption and unleash consumers' potential purchasing demand.

The city hosted a variety of shopping festivals that focused on home appliances, sportswear and fashion, and encouraged e-commerce platforms to offer discounts. Products including mobile phones, edible oils and tablet computers recorded positive results from the shopping festivals.

A food festival and a time-honored brands promotional event were also organized in cooperation with Chinese take-out delivery service platform Ele.me and a local time-honored brand research institute, which played a vital role in bolstering the catering sector's significant growth.
