The Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal's smart port project, which is based on 5G and Beidou high-precision positioning, won the highest award for innovative application from the Global Navigation Satellite System and Location-based Services Association of China (GLAC).

The project focuses on the problems and difficulties of traditional navigation, such as 24/7-hour operation in complex environments and use technological innovation to deal with the pain points of port satellite positioning difficulties.

The terminal's unmanned container trucks now use 5G and Beidou to improve their operational efficiency and stability.

The terminal's manned driving trucks also use 5G and Beidou high-precision positioning technology keep track of global tracking and management, as well as ensure the safety supervision and operation guidance at the port.

The project is part of the national strategy of strengthening the nation through transportation and an important achievement in promoting the construction of 5G new infrastructure projects by the National Development and Reform Commission, as well as a result of the Ministry of Transport's "automated terminal technology transportation industry R&D center".

The Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal turned into the first 5G intelligent port in China in May 2020 to change the port operation from automated to intelligent.

The terminal had started using the second versions of 5G, Beidou, and unmanned trucks as part of its commercial operations by the end of 2021.
