A ceremony of the Singapore Airlines' maiden voyage between Xiamen, Fujian province and Singapore was held at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport on Oct 27.
Direct passenger flights between Xiamen and Singapore had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2020.
The reopening of the flight will provide more choices for passengers in Xiamen and surrounding regions who have necessary travel needs for conducting business and studying abroad in Singapore.
Xiamen and Singapore have formed deep relations and cooperation over the years, and the reopening of the flight will bridge political, economic and cultural exchanges between the two sides.
In addition, Xiamen municipal bureau of commerce plans to set up a Xiamen overseas investment and trade service station to help Xiamen companies explore the international market, and contribute to the two-way investment and trade, according to Lin Zhenya, deputy director of the bureau.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
