The first half of this year has seen a boom in the convenience store industry. As of the end of June 2022, the number of convenience stores was about 270,000 nationwide, with sales in convenience stores under intensive monitoring up 10.2 percent.
According to Wu Huiyi, deputy director of Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce, Xiamen has always attached great importance to the construction and development of convenience stores, and under the strong support of Xiamen Bureau of Commerce, Xiamen was listed among the first cities in the country to have quarter-hour convenient living circles.
Xiamen has ranked atop the list of China's urban convenience store development index and its development features a diversified trend. As both well-known convenience stores, including 7-11 and Lawson, and local ones, including Fook, open in Xiamen, the city currently has more than 2,260 convenience stores.
At the event, various methods to carry the industry forward were put out, including clustering convenience stores in a specific area, making adaptations to meet the needs of local residents and broadening the category with the help of the internet.
