Jimei Central Activity Zone unveiled in Xiamen
A press conference of the Jimei Central Activity Zone (CAZ) was held in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, on Feb 5.
The Jimei CAZ is located east of Longhu Tianjie Street, west of Vanke Cloud City, south of China Communication Construction Co's commercial complex, and north of Xiamen Horticulture Expo Garden.
It was announced at the conference that the CAZ will fully utilize Jimei district's abundant business, tourism, culture and sports resources, as well as its robust industrial foundation, to create a new consumption and fashion landmark in the coastal city.
From a central business district to a central activity zone, the CAZ marks a new chapter of Jimei district's efforts to pilot "cross-island" development and is expected to serve as a new momentum behind Jimei's high-quality development, a top official of the district said, adding that Jimei New City, as the first newly developed urban area outside Xiamen Island, has multiple advantages in developing the CAZ.
In addition to the enchanting natural environment, Jimei New City boasts optimized culture, tourism and business facilities that involve a circus, a theater, a scientific museum, and a number of shopping malls.
Jimei district is also home to 15 higher education institutions and scientific research institutes, as well as an industrial layout consisting of artificial intelligence, 5G, big data, and the internet of things.
The convergence of personnel, commodities, trade, capital, technology and information makes Jimei New City a fertile land for investment and start-ups.

Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
