The Xiamen Scientific and Technological Innovation Conference was held at the Xiamen International Conference Center Hotel on March 29. At the event, attendees had in-depth discussions on technological innovation in Xiamen to develop plans for the high-quality development of the city.

People in attendance included Dou Xiankang, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Cui Yonghui, Party chief of Xiamen, and Lin Ruiliang, vice governor of Fujian provincial government.

According to Dou, innovation has always been the strongest driver of Xiamen's development as the city keeps gathering top-notch talents and creating high-level innovative platforms. China's technological departments plan to support Xiamen in fundamental research, technological breakthroughs, establishing platforms and talent cultivation to build the city into a regional center of scientific and technological innovation.

Lin said that Xiamen has been taking the leading role in technological innovation in Fujian province, and he hopes that the city will continue to make progress in city-industry integration and the business environment, and while giving full play to its advantages, Xiamen shall provide solutions to solve common problems in the province.

Cui added that Xiamen boasts a long history of scientific and technological innovation, and with new energy being injected into the city's high-quality development, Xiamen is sure to make more contributions to the modernization of China.

Themed on "implementing projects for scientific and technological innovation to accelerate development", the conference awarded those who make contributions to Xiamen's development of science and technology, employed 40 academicians as consultants, and signed contracts with 17 innovative teams and research and development (R&D) institutions.
