Xiamen Port opens first direct shipping route to New Zealand

One of the world's leaders in global container shipping, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), opened the inaugural route from Xiamen Port to New Zealand and Australia in the Southern Hemisphere on Aug 26.
The inaugural route was named WALLABY after a kangaroo species widely distributed in New Zealand and Australia.
The WALLABY route is currently the only direct container shipping route from Xiamen Port to New Zealand.
Under its plan, MSC will deploy nine container vessels to serve the new route, running weekly scheduled operations to provide shippers with more direct, convenient, and extensive transportation services.
The MSC ELENI, which undertook the inaugural voyage, departed from Xiamen International Container Terminal on Aug 27, bound for major ports in Oceania including Auckland, Tauranga, Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier in New Zealand and Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane in Australia.
