With the launch of a smart factory in North America and factories in Thailand and Zambia, Xiamen enterprises are expanding into overseas markets. Driven by innovation and high-quality development, these companies are positioning themselves more assertively on the global stage.
Xiamen-based Golden Home has launched its first smart satellite factory in North America, located in Dallas, Texas, investing more than 100 million yuan ($13.8 million) into the project. As the company's first comprehensive manufacturing center in the United States for panel and painted furniture, the Dallas facility boasts a daily production capacity of 500 sets of high-end custom kitchen cabinets and has created approximately 100 jobs in its initial phase.
Golden Home is also expanding its presence in Southeast Asia, with factories under construction in Thailand and Malaysia. The Malaysian satellite factory, representing a 100-million-yuan investment, is expected to begin trial operations in May, targeting markets in Singapore and Malaysia.
Many Xiamen enterprises are also expanding their global footprint by acquiring land and investing in factory construction through overseas subsidiaries. For example, Xiamen Voke Mold & Plastic Technology Co Ltd utilized approximately 75.65 million yuan of its own funds to purchase land in Malaysia for the development of a new factory.
This year, over 40 Xiamen enterprises have invested in setting up factories overseas, established subsidiaries, or completed filings for overseas investment projects.
In September 2024, the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce released a three-year action plan (2024-2026) aimed at supporting businesses in exploring international markets.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
