Xiamen prospers in 2024

The gross domestic product or GDP of Xiamen, a port city in East China's Fujian province, hit 858.9 billion yuan ($117.5 billion) in 2024, marking a 5.5 percent year-on-year increase.

The added value of industrial enterprises above a designated size increased by 9.0 percent compared to the previous year. Among the 35 major categories in the industrial sector, 26 industries experienced increased added value. 

These industrial enterprises above a designated size achieved a total profit of 56.63 billion yuan, representing a 25.3 percent increase compared to the previous year.

Retail sales in Xiamen grew by 3.0 percent in 2024, reaching 332.98 billion yuan. 

Meanwhile, fixed assets investment surged by 40.8 percent year-on-year.

During the same period, the city hosted 193 exhibitions and events, a notable 27.0 percent increase from the previous year. The overall economic benefits of the convention and exhibition industry reached 30.98 billion yuan, an increase of 7.8 percent. The total exhibition area expanded to 2.46 million square meters, reflecting a growth of 8.7 percent.

In terms of foreign trade, the total value of imports and exports in 2024 increased to 932.61 billion yuan. Exports accounted for 498.01 billion yuan, an increase of 11.3 percent.

Trade with RCEP countries and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative totaled 321.3 billion yuan and 459.1 billion yuan, respectively. 

Xiamen's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports soared to 35.78 billion yuan, representing a significant 51.1 percent rise. 

Additionally, a total of 1,927 new foreign-invested enterprises were established during the year, with contracted foreign investment amounting to $1.18 billion.

During the same period, Xiamen's per capita disposable income reached 74,249 yuan, up 4.5 percent year-on-year. Urban per capita disposable income and rural per capita disposable income hit 76,118 yuan and 36,345 yuan, respectively, year-on-year increases of 1.4 percent and 6.3 percent.

Moreover, overall employment remained stable in 2024, with 168,200 new jobs created in urban areas.
