As a core hub port along the Maritime Silk Road, Xiamen Port in the coastal city of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province witnessed a notable increase in container throughput in the first half of this year, with the total amount reaching nearly 6 million TEUs, demonstrating the city's thriving domestic and foreign trade.

Official data shows that from January to June, Xiamen Port's total container throughput exceeded 5.93million TEUs, a 1.09 percent year-on-year increase. Foreign trade accounted for nearly 4.27 million TEUs, up by 0.79 percent, while domestic trade reached 1.67 million TEUs, a growth of 1.86 percent year-on-year.

In the first half of the year, Xiamen Port successively introduced new routes to countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines, leading to an increase in shore operations.

This progress can be attributed to the development of smart ports and intelligent waterways. The application of 5G intelligent terminals and intelligent transformation efforts have provided solid support for the port's growth.

Wu Yiyan, operations manager of the Haitian Branch of Xiamen Container Terminal Group Co, highlighted that in recent years, the port has continuously worked to enhance its software and hardware service capabilities and promoted intelligent transformation, which have facilitated economic and trade exchanges between Xiamen, its surrounding regions and Southeast Asia.

In addition, Xiamen Customs has been leveraging the development of "Smart Customs" to fuel port development.
