Fujian-Taiwan ferry reaches new heights
This year, the Xiamen-Kinmen "Mini Three Links" route has seen a steady increase in passenger numbers, reinforcing its role as a crucial transportation link between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan. By Aug 9, passenger traffic on the route has surpassed one million, marking a 45 percent increase compared to the previous year and achieving the milestone three months earlier than last year.
During the summer travel season, the route is bustling with students on study tours, families visiting relatives, and tourists shopping across the Taiwan Strait. At Xiamen's Wutong Ferry Terminal, travelers queued orderly for customs clearance.
The Xiamen-Kinmen ferry accounts for over 90 percent of the "Mini Three Links" route, maintaining its status as the premier maritime route between the regions. The journey takes less than 30 minutes, and 24 round trips are operated daily.
Since the beginning of the year, the Gaoqi border inspection station has processed over 5,100 ferry trips. Passenger numbers have surged during the summer, with a daily average exceeding 4,500 since July. On Aug 9 alone, more than 6,600 passengers were processed, setting a new record since the route's resumption in 2023.
The Gaoqi border inspection station has enhanced services by optimizing large luggage channels, upgrading cultural zones, and establishing reading corners to support cross-Strait integration. Additionally, the all-in-one service machines, in collaboration with China Ocean Shipping Agency Xiamen Co Ltd, facilitate ticketing and documentation, offering travelers a seamless, one-stop service experience.

As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
