Xiamen's cultural and tourism market continues to thrive this summer. An endless stream of high-profile events, including concerts by Jay Chou and other renowned singers, as well as sporting events like the Chinese Table Tennis Club Super League, have been held in the city.
These cultural and sports spectacles have attracted audiences from all over the country. Behind the boom, the "ticket economy" is quietly emerging, injecting new vitality into Xiamen's consumer market.
The "ticket economy" refers to an initiative where consumers can use tickets to large-scale concerts, music festivals, or sporting events to enjoy benefits across Xiamen. These include entry discounts to multiple tourist attractions, special offers at major hotels, and exclusive dining discounts at local restaurants.
The "ticket economy" uses event tickets as a way to integrate various consumption scenarios, such as cultural tourism, transportation, and commerce. It turns the end of a show or sporting event into the starting point of urban exploration. This shift transforms one-time expenses into a chain of consumption.
For consumers, a ticket is not just a money-saving coupon — it's also a guide to unlocking the city's charm and experiencing the local culture.
Since July, Xiamen has hosted a total of 2,344 commercial performances, including 10 large-scale concerts, attracting 184,000 attendees.
Coupled with its well-developed transportation network and high-quality service facilities, Xiamen has laid a solid foundation for the growth of the "ticket economy".
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
