As Indonesia officially becomes a full member of the BRICS, and 10 countries including Thailand, Bolivia, Uganda, and Vietnam become BRICS partner states, the BRICS cooperation framework is demonstrating growing cohesion and expansiveness. Xiamen, as a vital part of China's efforts to open up, continues to deepen its economic and trade cooperation with BRICS countries.

Between the BRICS Summit in Xiamen in September 2017 and the end of July this year, Xiamen saw a substantial increase in import and export trade with BRICS countries. The total import and export value between Xiamen and other BRICS markets has reached 662.72 billion yuan ($92.7 billion), of which exports amounted to 228 billion yuan and imports totaled 434.72 billion yuan.

Russia, Brazil, and India have emerged as the three leading markets for Xiamen's BRICS trade, with their combined trade volume accounting for 77.1 percent of the city's total import and export trade with other BRICS markets.

Among exported goods, mechanical and electrical products dominate, accounting for 42.9 percent of the total export value. This reflects the initial achievements of Xiamen's manufacturing transformation and upgrading.

In December 2020, the BRICS PartNIR Innovation Center was launched in Xiamen, deepening cooperation between the city and BRICS countries in the field of new industrial revolution across three dimensions: policy coordination, talent cultivation, and project development.

Against this backdrop of collaboration, China Customs has actively promoted the launch of the BRICS "Smart Customs" Center of Excellence website, opening new channels for enterprises to access information on trade regulatory policies of BRICS countries.
