In recent years, Xiamen Port has expanded its foreign trade routes while maintaining high container throughput. As of the end of February, the port has operated 144 foreign trade routes, covering 53 countries and regions and reaching 145 ports.
From January to February, its foreign trade container throughput reached 1.45 million TEUs, ranking 7th among all Chinese ports. With smart customs services and an improved business environment, Xiamen Port has become a key foreign trade logistics hub in Southeast China.
Driven by the Silk Road Maritime platform, Xiamen's cross-border e-commerce to Taiwan is booming. To tackle the "hard to return" issue, a new system has been introduced, along with a consolidated shipping model that combines e-commerce, general trade, and bonded goods.
With precise and efficient cargo inspections, the "Digital Port" smart cloud sorting platform connects data across customs, ports, and shipping lines. It enables 211 port services to be processed in one place, allowing cargo to be sorted before it arrives at the port.
Supported by robust infrastructure and efficient customs clearance policies, Fujian province has seen impressive growth in lithium‑battery exports. In 2025, it exported 130.72-billion-yuan ($19.2 billion) worth of lithium batteries, with over 90 percent of these exports shipped through Xiamen Port.
Thanks to the city’s well-developed shipping network, more Chinese-made automobiles are leaving Xiamen for BRICS countries and Southeast Asia. Xiamen Port now operates 22 BRICS routes covering 19 ports in seven countries, with a single-inspection, mutual-recognition model under the Secure and Smart Trade Line Pilot Program that has boosted customs efficiency by over 60 percent.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
