Sixteen cities across China including Beijing, Shanghai, and Xiamen, along with Hainan province, took the lead in developing the National Pilot Zone for Innovative Development of Trade in Services on April 27. 

Xiamen became the only city in Fujian province selected for this initiative. It will explore replicable and scalable examples of the "Xiamen experience" in areas such as institutional opening-up and industrial innovation and upgrading.

Xiamen is already home to national export hubs for cultural products, digital services, traditional Chinese medicine services, and language services. It has strong advantages in aviation maintenance, trade logistics, digital services, and cultural tourism. 

As a pilot city for trade in services innovation, Xiamen has launched many national-first measures and is steadily advancing its service sector opening-up. With platforms like the BRICS Innovation Base and the Maritime Silk Road Central Legal District, the city has gained solid experience in aligning with global rules, enabling cross-border flows, and deepening cross-Strait trade in services cooperation.

The pilot zone will focus on five key tasks including driving integrated innovation across industrial and supply chains, building competitive strength among market players, enabling the efficient allocation of production factors, advancing high-level opening-up, and creating a supportive system at home and abroad. Leveraging its unique location and industrial strengths, Xiamen aims to make major breakthroughs in these areas.
