Xiamen thrives in 2025

Xiamen, a coastal city in East China's Fujian province, recorded a gross domestic product (GDP) of 898 billion yuan ($131.68 billion) in 2025, marking a year-on-year increase of 5.7 percent.

The city's total annual industrial value added reached 258.2 billion yuan, up 8.7 percent. The added value of industrial enterprises above the designated size increased by 10.2 percent compared to the previous year. Among the 35 major categories in the industrial sector, 20 recorded positive growth in value added. 

By the end of the year, the city had 3,110 industrial enterprises above the designated size. Among them, 987 enterprises each achieved an annual output value of over 100 million yuan, and their combined output accounted for 87.7 percent of the city's total industrial output. 

Meanwhile, the total profits of industrial enterprises above the designated size increased by 12.4 percent compared with the previous year.

Retail sales in Xiamen grew by 3.6 percent in 2025, reaching 344.86 billion yuan. 

During the same period, the city hosted 194 exhibitions and events, a 0.5 percent increase from the previous year. The convention and exhibition industry generated overall economic benefits of 28.79 billion yuan, while the total exhibition area expanded to 2.21 million square meters.

In foreign trade, the total value of imports and exports reached 960 billion yuan in 2025, up 3 percent year-on-year, with exports totaling 540.76 billion yuan and imports 419.26 billion yuan.

Trade with RCEP countries and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative totaled 324.9 billion yuan and 494.1 billion yuan, respectively. 

Xiamen's cross-border e-commerce imports and exports soared to 20.66 billion yuan. 

Additionally, a total of 2,069 new foreign-invested enterprises were established during the year, with contracted foreign investment amounting to $1.55 billion.

During the same period, Xiamen's per capita disposable income reached 77,762 yuan, up 4.7 percent year-on-year. Urban and rural per capita disposable incomes reached 79,719 yuan and 38,512 yuan, respectively, year-on-year increases of 4.7 percent and 6 percent.

Moreover, overall employment remained stable in 2025, with 181,000 new jobs created in urban areas.
