Xiamen hosts cross-border e-commerce summit
A national summit on cross-border e-commerce development was held in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province on April 22. The Xiamen municipal bureau of commerce took charge of the summit.
The conference invited the heads of multiple cross-border e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Alibaba, as well as high-quality sellers in this industry to participate in it. It had the theme of "Opening and constructing cross-border markets".
"The import-export volume of cross-border e-commerce retail reached 2.56 billion yuan ($394 million) in 2020, which is a four-fold increase compared with that of 2019," said Hong Benzhu, the deputy director of the Xiamen municipal bureau of commerce.
Hong also noted that Xiamen is committed to cultivating top cross-border talents and making full use of the e-commerce ecosystem. "It is important to jointly promote industrial transformation and upgrading, as well as opening up overseas markets," he added.
Official statistics indicate that China's cross-border e-commerce industry has maintained a rapid growth of over 15 percent in imports and exports, while the number of sellers accounts for 40 percent of the global total.
Cross-border e-commerce has become a new growth driver both domestically and globally, with all involved platforms working towards further developing the industry.
Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
